CASE Advancement Study

In partnership with the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), CIC has sponsored a series of studies of the institutional advancement practices of small and mid-sized private colleges and universities. Five studies have been jointly conducted, roughly every seven years, dating back to 1976. Information from these comparative studies have provided useful information on mission-critical activities to CIC member institutions as well as a useful portrait of the institutional advancement activities of smaller independent colleges.

The CIC/CASE Advancement Study covers a wide range of advancement activities and functions, including:
  • management, staffing, and budget of institutional advancement activities
  • fundraising goals, as well as roles of the president and trustees
  • public relations, marketing, and communication activities
  • alumni activities
  • admissions, and recruitment activities
