Resources For CAOs

The Institute for Chief Academic Officers is an annual CIC event, that brings CAOs of independent colleges and universities together for networking, problem-solving, and sharing of ideas.

This series of workshops is intended to help institutions move beyond information literacy in general education to information fluency in humanities majors.

The Executive Leadership Academy helps prepare experienced provosts and vice presidents to become successful presidents.

CIC periodically offers a leadership colloquium for chief academic officers. The colloquium is designed to engage participants in a selection of cases drawn from classical and contemporary thought and bring them into relevance to the the situations faced by today's chief academic officers.

In collaboration with the Aspen Institute, CIC offers seminars on leadership for presidents and chief academic officers.

This two-year project will allow CIC to work with a select group of independent colleges and universities with the goal of examining the usefulness of the “Degree Qualifications Profile” concept.

The Consortium provides up to 40 institutions with guidance and resources to conduct a campus project that uses assessment data to improve student learning.

NetVUE fosters the exploration of vocation in college and university campus communities.

CIC provides listservs for various campus constituencies. All of the listservs are reserved exclusively for staff from CIC member institutions.

The Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellows program brings prominent artists, diplomats, journalists, business leaders, and other nonacademic professionals to campuses.

The CIC Tuition Exchange Program (CIC-TEP) is a network of CIC colleges and universities willing to accept, tuition-free, students from families of full-time employees of other CIC-TEP institutions.

CIC’s report, A Study of Chief Academic Officers of Independent Colleges and Universities, examines the characteristics, responsibilities, and career trajectories of chief academic officers (CAOs).

Making the Case charts, data, and other resources are compiled periodically from reliable sources to help demonstrate the effectiveness of CIC institutions.
