Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum
and San Xavier Mission Tour

Noted as "the most distinctive zoo in the United States",
by the New York Times, the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is one of Tucsons
best-loved treasures. See more than 300 animal species and 1200 kinds
of plants on displayalive in their natural desert setting. The afternoon
will include a stop at the historic San Xavier Del Bac Mission, founded
in the late 17th century by the Jesuit missionary Father Kino. Called
the "White Dove of the Desert" the mission is an exceptional
combination of architecture and history.
Four-Wheel Jeep Ride
Friday, January 7 1:30 - 5 PM $70
Enjoy an an exciting, open-air, four-wheel adventure through the Santa
Catalina mountains and foothills. Along the way, stops will be made to
enjoy the unique features of the area. The tour includes a nature walk
showing the local plants, reptiles, and Native American archaeological
sites.
Biosphere II
Friday, January 7 1:30 - 5 PM $33
Biosphere II is a 3-acre, ecological system, complete with rainforest,
savanna, desert, marsh and ocean. This habitat was once home to 15 people
and has now become a science center dedicated to the environment.
Golf and Tennis
The Sheraton El Conquistador has award winning golf and tennis facilities
which are available for group use, in addition to individual play. If
there is sufficient interest CIC will organize a golf scramble and tennis
mixer, in addition to the optional trips. Please indicate on the registration
form whether you would be interested in participating in either event,
and additional information will be sent to you.
Please note that the tennis mixer will be organized for the afternoon
of Thursday, January 6, and the golf scramble for the afternoon following
the end of the Institute on Friday, January 7. Approximate cost per person
would be $35 for court time, and $145 for the golf greens fees.
