American Graduate Fellowships

The 2009-2010 competition for the American Graduate Fellowships has been suspended.

This initiative is designed to promote and support doctoral study in the humanities by accomplished graduates of small and mid-sized private liberal arts colleges. Two fellowships, worth up to $50,000 each and renewable for a second year, will be awarded annually through 2011. The fellowships will be available to students from eligible institutions who enroll in doctoral programs at any of 23 leading independent research universities in the United States, Great Britain, and Ireland. Eligible fields of study include history, philosophy, literature and languages, and fine arts.

Funder: Wichita Falls Area Community Foundation

Program Status: The 2009-2010 competition for the American Graduate Fellowships has been suspended. General information on the program is still available in the 2008-2009 brochure. Additional information is below, including the recipients of the 2009 fellowships.

Research Universities Available for Study: The fellowships support doctoral study at any of 23 leading independent research universities in the United States, Great Britain, and Ireland.

United States: Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Duke University, Emory University, Georgetown University, Harvard University, Johns Hopkins University, New York University, Northwestern University, Princeton University, Rice University, Stanford University, University of Chicago, University of Pennsylvania, Washington University in St. Louis, Yale University

Great Britain and Ireland: University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, King's College London, University College London, University of Edinburgh, Trinity College Dublin

2009 American Graduate Fellows

Robert Hoffman graduated from Rollins College and is pursuing a Ph.D. in philosophy at the University of Pennsylvania.

Matthew Loar graduated from Washington and Lee University
and will study classics at Stanford University.

2008 American Graduate Fellows

Jacob Swenson graduated from Willamette University and is pursuing a Ph.D. in philosophy at the University of Chicago.

Jennifer Tate graduated from Hendrix College and is pursuing a Ph.D. in English at Washington University in St. Louis.

2007 American Graduate Fellows

Daniel Berntson graduated from Northwestern College and is pursuing a Ph.D. in philosophy at Brown University.

Adam Spry graduated from Pacific Lutheran University and is pursuing a Ph.D. in American literature at Columbia University.
