Presidential Vocation and Institutional Mission

This seminar-based program is designed to assist current and prospective presidents in affirming their own sense of vocation, in the context of the missions of the institutions they lead and might lead in the future.

The distinctive premise of the Presidential Vocation and Institutional Mission program is its recognition that vital questions about presidential effectiveness are often personal, and even spiritual. Such questions involve knowing what makes work fulfilling and meaningful, discerning “good work,” and finding joy in it; and they address directly the possibility that someone is president because he or she has felt called to accept this responsibility.

Funder: Lilly Endowment Inc.

Program Status: Each summer during 2005-2006, CIC organized two seminars—one for presidents and their spouses, and the other for prospective presidents and their spouses. CIC held another seminar for prospective presidents on July 15-18, 2007 at Glendorn in Bradford, PA with a winter follow-up session to be held on February 24-25, 2008 in Atlanta, GA. CIC will hold another seminar for current presidents on July 13-16, 2008 at Glendorn in Bradford, PA, with a winter follow-up on January 7-8, 2009 in Bonita Springs, FL (held in conjunction with the 2009 Presidents Institute).

The application deadline for the 2008-2009 presidents program is February 15, 2008. The application document for the 2008-2009 seminar is available in the brochure above. For additional information on the event, visit the 2008-2009 presidents program webpage. (In order to view PDF files, you must have Adobe Acrobat, available for free from the Adobe website.)
