Financial Indicators Tool (FIT)In 2005, CIC, with the assistance of The Austen Group, piloted a Financial Indicators Tool (FIT) for a representative sample of 65 CIC member colleges and universities. Based on KPMG’s Composite Financial Index (CFI), the FIT provides an easily comprehensible assessment of an institution’s financial performance that can be tracked over time and benchmarked against similar institutions. In the FIT, four financial ratios—measuring resource sufficiency, operating results, financial assets, and debt management—are presented individually and combined into a single index score indicating the financial health of the institution, tracked over a six-year period. The FIT pilot—and a full FIT report, which will be distributed to all CIC member colleges and universities in March 2007—is funded by grants from the William Randolph Hearst Foundations in support of CIC’s Data Initiatives. Funder: The William Randolph Hearst Foundations Program Status: The Financial Indicators Tool (FIT) pilot report was distributed to CIC member institutions participating in the pilot project in December 2005. A full report for all CIC member colleges and universities was distributed in March 2007. Independent Newsletter Articles: For questions about the FIT, contact CIC Director of Research
