WASHINGTON, DC – The Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) announced the winner of its top annual academic award for 2006. Wallace Campbell, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college at Pikeville College (KY), received CIC’s Chief Academic Officers Award.

The award was presented at the Chief Academic Officers (CAO) Institute, held at the TradeWinds Island Grand Resort in St. Petersburg Beach, Florida. The honor was conferred by the chief academic officers of CIC’s 570 member colleges and universities.

Campbell was awarded the 2006 CIC Chief Academic Officer Award for contributions to his colleagues at private colleges and universities. A distinguishing feature of his career has been service to Appalachian College Association institutions. Before joining Pikeville College in 1998, he was vice president for academic affairs and academic dean at Alice Lloyd College (KY) for 20 years.

CIC President Richard Ekman congratulated Campbell for his dedicated service at the CIC Institute for Chief Academic Officers and as chair of the CAO Task Force.

“In your nearly three decades of service to Alice Lloyd and Pikeville Colleges, you have distinguished yourself as a valuable colleague. Your tireless work on behalf of students at these institutions has touched the lives of countless individuals. We salute you for your commitment to addressing both campus and national challenges,” Ekman said.
